The Dalarna County Council (Landstinget Dalarna) is a service provider in health care and dental care and supports research and education. The County Council also works in the fields of culture, public transport and regional cooperation. With more than 8.000 employees, the County Council is the largest and most important employer in the region.
By general election every four years it is governed by Dalarna residents.
The largest part of the County Council is the healthcare sector with approx. 7.500 employees. This area has two parts, the primary care with 25 healthcare centers and the specialist care with four general hospitals and a mental hospital. Dalarna is well equipped to provide health and medical care
The County Council is government-financed and receives state subsidies and a share of funds that are redistributed among county councils, as well as revenues from, among other sources, patient fees. The budget for 2015 is SEK 7,6 bn. 90 percent Health Care, Dental Care 3 percent, Culture and education 2 percent, County Council administration 2 percent och Regional development 3 percent.
