Description of the nature and cooperation between the regional health care system and thelocal health care system.
The purpose of the regional health care system is a system that is common within the regionand is based on a close cooperation between the local health care and the highly specialized health care. The regional health care is responsible for the highly specialized care demanding large recources. This specialized health care is concentrated to Falun and partly to Mora. The latter partly due to geographical factors. The highly specialized healthcare is also represented in the local health care areas in the outpatient clinics.
This system offers the basic health care to the local population which is most often needed, common and near in time and space. The main actors in the local health care are the primary health care units, emergency clinics, internal medicine clinics, geriatric clinics and, as mentioned above, the outpatient clicics representing the highly specialized health care. The primary health care unit is the first line of health care the patient visits when he/she gets ill. There the first examination is done and there most patients get sufficient treatment. Should, according to the treating doctor, the patient need more advanced and resource demanding health care, the patient is sent to Falu hospital or Uppsala Academical Hospital.
