The Folk High School is the oldest form of education for adults in our country. It is voluntary and free for everyone at least 18 years of age with a short or inadequate education.
We maintain that you are never too old to learn, but that knowledge must be full of meaning, be put into a context and bring out totality. We look upon Man as an entity; head, heart, body and soul are equally important and social fellowship, responsibility and respect for oneself as well as others are founding prerequisites for personal development and rewarding studies.
"You attend school to learn what you do not already know".
Fornby Folk High School was at the beginning a well-off miner's homestead, beautifully situated near the Church of Tuna. The school was founded in 1877 by the County Council of Kopparberg, now the County Council of Dalecarlia, still head of the school. The general setting is snug and pleasant and the school safeguards old traditions. The surroundings give ample opportunities for outdoor life.
At Fornby you can attend several courses: Most students attend what approximates either the obligatory school's comprehensive or secondary/upper secondary school. We also offer a course tailored for people with acquired brain damage, a one year school of art, and a one year course on textiles.
